SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — 10:25 p.m. update: PG&E officials tell ABC7 the gas line rupture was caused by a third party contractor. They will continue to monitor the situation while repairs on the line are expected to begin Thursday morning.
Fire officials say evacuation orders will likely remain in place until 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Red Cross Norcal is assisting all impacted residents at the Bascom Community Center with shelter for the night.
A gas leak in San Jose has prompted some evacuations on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
Police and fire units are currently on the scene near Race Street and Park Avenue. Evacuations are taking place within a 900ft radius of the area.
No injuries have been reported in the incident. Authorities ask residents to avoid the area.
Bascom Community Center at 1000 South Bascom Avenue is open to anyone needing shelter.
PG&E officials say an 8″ steel natural gas line was ruptured. Approximately 325 addresses are within the evacuation area, both residential and commercial units. Officials say the estimate to get the line capped is midnight. 30 customers currently have gas turned off and this number may expand.
