Born in Barrica on November 10, 1994, Jon Rahm is one of the best Spanish players in all of history and he is not yet 25 years old. He reached the top of the world ranking and at the 2021 US Open he got the urge to achieve his first Major after having been on the verge of success on several occasions.
For his part, in 2023 he added a new chapter of glory to his history , winning the Masters , thus adding his second Major.
Jon Rahm kept hearing how he was destined to win this Masters because so many Spanish stars were aligned in his favor.
Sunday would have been the 66th birthday of the late Seve Ballesteros, Rahm’s idol and inspiration for playing. This year was the 40-year anniversary of the second Masters title Ballesteros won. If that wasn’t enough, caddie Adam Hayes was assigned white coveralls with No. 49 April 9.
“I was told a lot of things about why this could be the year,” Rahm said, looking smart as ever in his new green jacket. “And I just didn’t want to buy into it too much.”
This mental-game Svengali in Rahm’s corner was, of course, Rahm himself, which is to say that this Masters, like life, was in how you looked at it. Half of it was a discombobulated, disjointed mess, with rounds no longer ending when days did, making it hard to establish a narrative.
Rahm didn’t dwell on that half. He began the final round two strokes behind Koepka but played the first eight holes in 2 under (birdies at the par-4 third and par-5 eighth) while Koepka played them in 2 over (bogeys at the par-3 fourth and sixth) to seize control of the tournament.
“What is going on on the outside is not always a reflection of the inside,” Rahm said. “I was calm. I never got frustrated. I never really got – felt like anything was out of control. But obviously you’re nervous, right. There’s tension out there.”
Mickelson rolled back the years with a final round-best 65 to become the oldest golfer ever to finish inside the top-five at the major. A three-time green jacket winner, the 52-year-old was all smiles as he eased round Augusta with eight birdies.
It marks the lowest round ever posted by a player aged 50 or above, coming a day after Fred Couples became the oldest player to ever make the cut at the major.
Both men bogeyed the ninth, with Rahm finishing the front front-nine 10-under par and one stroke ahead of Koepka and a resurgent Jordan Spieth, who finished 8-under a few minutes before Rahm reached the green on 10.
Nearing the halfway mark of the back-nine, Rahm created the final separation. He birdied 13 and 14, moving him 12-under and four strokes ahead of Mickelson.

In that first presentation in 2017, Jon Rahm finished 27th , overcoming the cut and also the nerves before such a scenario.
