The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will get underway on July 20, with New Zealand playing the opening match against Norway.
The tournament will have some of the best players in women’s football across the globe as 32 countries will battle it out in a bid to be crowned as world champion.

Renard has won a record 14 French league titles and eight European Cups, making her one of the most decorated players in women’s club football. All that is missing is an international title and Renard will hope to change that.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August, is already bigger than ever before. The number of teams has expanded from 24 to 32. The total prize money has shot up from $30 million in 2019 to $110 million; the champions will be awarded $4.29 million, and even teams knocked out in the group stage will make $1.56 million.

She retired in 2000 with an international record of 105 goals in 153 appearances. She was jointly awarded the FIFA Player of the Century title in the same year, sharing the honour with China’s Sun Wen.

Russia’s Elena Danilova represented her country in the 2003 World Cup, and scored her team’s sole goal in a 7-1 loss to eventual champions Germany in the quarter-finals. She was only 16 years and 107 days old on the day.
Despite her clear talent from an exceptionally young age, Danilova’s career was riddled with injuries, and she never managed to further make her mark, retiring from football in 2018.

Among those, is 18-year-old Alyssa Thompson.

She has only been playing with her NWSL side since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, beginning earlier this year, but already looks right at home. A player that loves to pick up the ball and drive towards the byline, she is making herself a nightmare for opposition defenders who find it difficult to deal with her twisting and winding runs toward goal. If her NWSL outings are anything to go by, and she gets the backing of her manager, she is certainly a player who can set the world stage alight.
