Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week Two of the 2022 season and that may also go down as the last time he’s on an NFL field.
Lewan has missed 30 games over the last three seasons because of knee problems and the Titans can reclaim his entire 2023 cap hit of just over $14.8 million by cutting him this offseason. Lewan believes the Titans will go that route and he will take some time to contemplate whether he is going to try to return for a 10th professional season.
Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan is facing an unusual situation this offseason: he’s almost certainly going to get cut, which means he could be playing for a different team in 2023.
Lewan isn’t shying away from that, either. In fact, Lewan said he fully expects to be let go after yet another injury-shortened campaign.
A unique situation for the Tennessee Titans and Taylor Lewan
If you read that article, two things become instantly clear about Taylor Lewan’s future. First, he knows he is going to be cut.
Secondly, he is either going to play in Nashville next year or he (most likely) won’t play anywhere at all. He isn’t excited about the idea of a one-year deal somewhere else where he might catch on because he loves it in Tennessee.
“Football, it is not something I can wake up five years from now and say: You know what dude? I am going to go play ball again,” Lewan said. “Once this chapter is closed, I am not a Brett Favre. I am not these guys that is going to retire and unretire. I am not going to do that. I am going to make a decision, and I’m going to stick with that decision. But I am happy either way, and I think that is the most beautiful thing I can be given in my life.”
The Titans again own the No. 11 pick in the 2023 draft and could be in the market for Lewan’s replacement. The direction the team under new general manager Ran Carthon has not been charted.
Tennessee is also excessively over the 2023 salary cap — by roughly $24 million — and has a multitude of needs on either side of the ball.
