Grading Bears-Panthers trade for No. 1 overall pick, with D.J. Moore and draft picks to Chicago!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

The Bears struck a deal with the Carolina Panthers on Friday to send them the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to multiple reports. In exchange, the Bears received two future first- and second-round draft picks and Panthers wide receiver DJ Moore, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

General manager Ryan Poles turned the first overall pick into two first round picks (No. 9, 2024 first-rounder) and two second round picks (No. 61, 2025 second rounder). He also managed to land a No. 1 wide receiver for quarterback Justin Fields.

According to Jeff Hughes of DaBearsBlog, the Panthers were looking to offer a 2025 first-round pick in addition to the two first-round and second-round selections. But Poles wanted Moore in the trade. He got his way.

The full package of assets sent to Chicago reads like a shopping list: the ninth-overall pick this year, a second-round selection in 2023 (No. 61 overall originally from the 49ers), a first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025, and Moore, a receiver who just completed the first year of a three-year, $61.88 million contract with the Panthers.

All of this was to acquire a coveted draft selection to be used on a franchise quarterback of the future in Carolina.

The sheer volume of assets sent to Chicago for one draft pick means there’s no other position Carolina will logically consider than quarterback, and after an NFL Scouting Combine in which two quarterbacks — Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud — dazzled scouts, it’s no surprise the Panthers waited only a week since the two completed their workouts to get a deal done.

D.J. Moore’s Career
A first-round pick in the 2018 Draft by Carolina, D.J. Moore joined the Panthers at a tough time for a wide receiver. Cam Newton’s superpowers were waning and Moore’s new team was on the precipice of a quarterback transitional period that would ultimately prove to last the duration of Moore’s career in Carolina.

As a rookie, Moore hauled in 55 catches for 788 yards and two scores finishing as a fringe WR3 for fantasy purposes. For the next four seasons, Moore’s role as a target hog would only expand and lead to him finishing in the top 10 in target share over the last two seasons.

Remember the “breaking news” that Jameis Winston “likely” will be released by the Saints, now that they have signed Derek Carr? Jameis may not be released, after all.

Via Dianna Russini  the Saints have offered Winston a “restructured” contract. He has until Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET to accept it, or he’ll be released.

In most cases, “restructured” means “you get most of your pay now, as a signing bonus.” In this case, it means “you take less or you take a hike.”

Winston is due to make $12.8 million this year. The Week One starter in 2022, he appeared in only three games.

The challenge now for Winston’s agent will be to gauge the market for his services. Will someone else offer as much or more than whatever the Saints are offering?

Yes, it’s tampering for teams to answer that question. Yes, it happens all the time.

If Winston doesn’t accept the reduced offer in New Orleans, he possibly could land in Denver, reunited with Sean Payton.

Whatever the outcome, the Saints want to keep Winston at their price. If he doesn’t like that price (especially if someone else will pay a higher price), he’ll be a free agent by Wednesday.

As Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson prepares for a limited crack at free agency, he has had two potential suitors take moves that most definitely take them out of the running for his services.

With the Panthers trading up to No. 1 with an obvious plan to draft a quarterback, they won’t be pursuing Jackson. And with the Dolphins picking up the fifth-year option on Tua Tagovailoa, a potential pairing with Jackson’s hometown team ain’t happening.

Even if Lamar had an agent, the exit of Carolina and Miami from a potential contest for his services would be a major problem. As Lamar continues to represent himself, it makes a difficult situation nearly impossible.
