As the Twitter joke goes, the Met Gala is the one night of the year where we all get to judge celebrities’ looks while we lounge around in stained sweatpants. And while it’s all too common for some to slouch when it comes to following the theme of the night, one guest nailed it in the gilded glamor department at the 2022 Met Gala. Please feast your eyes on Melissa King’s epic gold nail art.
OK, so it technically might be jewelry, but the Top Chef winner and one of the three chefs of the night rolled onto the red carpet wearing a bracelet that extended up to cover her ring and pinky fingers. It was shiny gold and covered in ruby and pearl-looking appliqués. She also sported a gold, armor-esque covering on her other pointer finger. The finger cuff came from designer Lillian Shalom and rings were from Dena Kemp.
The rest of her exposed fingers and nails were kept clear of any polish, which really draws our eyeballs straight to the golden jewelry she wore. Somehow, it was both a retro and futuristic look all at once. And one that set the hearts of internet critics aflame.
King kept the rest of her beauty look simple, with cropped hair and minimal-looking makeup. Because why take attention away from the nail situation? It’s especially impressive to see the manicure from far away, where you can really notice how long it is.
Best of luck to King if she wants to pick anything up today — those nails won’t make it easy — but we do appreciate a spiced-up manicure that follows the evening’s trend. Now back to your regularly scheduled Met Gala programming of screaming about the celebs who don’t follow suit.
