Disturbing news was shared out of Lafitte after Hurricane Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon Sunday.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies knocked on all the doors of residents who stayed on the surge side of the flood gates in Lafitte, urging them to get out

Deputies went door to door to get everybody out, and they believed only 75 people were left behind after the flood gates were closed.

It is now believed that 250 to 500 people are on the surge side of the flood gates in Lafitte.

Ida is bringing life-threatening storm surge to coastal areas of Louisiana.

It is expected that from Port Fourchon to the Mouth of the Mississippi River that there is 12 to 16 feet of surge.
