The Glendale Police Department said it’s “aware of the incident circulating on the internet involving an NBA player at a nightclub with a what appears to be a gun in the early morning hours of March 4, 2023.”
“We have confirmed the incident took place at a bar in Glendale and we are investigating the matter. The Glendale Police Department does not comment on ongoing investigations,” the department said in a statement.
The Instagram video, posted early Saturday morning and shared widely on social media, shows the 23-year-old briefly flashing what appears to be a gun while reportedly listening to music at a nightclub, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Morant later apologized via his representation for the video and said he would “take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”
From off-the-court issues to on-court injuries, the current No. 2 seed in the NBA’s Western Conference (by just one game) appears to be on the ropes. Especially if you listen to numerous fan accounts on social media, or others from the national media. It’s as if the season didn’t just end for Clarke, but for all the Grizzlies.
But the Memphis fan base shouldn’t give up just yet. There is still hope for this season.
Dillon Brooks – every NBA fan bases’ favorite guy to hate (even at times the Memphis fan base) because of his defensive tenacity and overall demeanor – was only suspended one game for getting his 16th technical against the Nuggets. Surely his on-ball and off-ball defense was missed against Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Steven Adams, the offensive weapon that few talk about being such a force on that end since he is an unorthodox impact player as a screener and rebounder, should also be back in the fold soon after missing weeks with a knee injury. The team could’ve used his size when the Clippers went small – the presence of Russell Westbrook on the floor would’ve allowed for that to happen.
According to reports, however, Memphis tried to take steps toward righting the ship even before Morant’s most recent incident. That included a players-only meeting where one of the Grizzlies’ most respected veterans reportedly spoke up, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported in a Tuesday afternoon video.
Center Steven Adams—a 10-year contributor to the Thunder, Pelicans and Memphis—reportedly urged his teammates to conduct themselves more professionally on the road.
