Though the character might drum up images of Margot Robbie’s DC Universe iteration of Arthur Fleck’s partner in crime, director Todd Phillips’ DC Elseworlds’ take on Joker has paved the way for a new Quinn to join the ranks.
Although Lady Gaga was announced as a cast member of the anticipated sequel, which sees Joaquin Phoenix return as the Clown Prince of Crime, it wasn’t until recently that we found out she’d be portraying the one and only Harley Girl.
Joker 2, which is called Joker: Folie à Deux, releases in October 2024, so there is still some time before it is ready for release. As Phillips said in his social media post, he’s now digging into the “cave” now to edit Joker 2 and “put it all together.”
Joker 2 brings back Joaquin Phoenix as the main character, and leaked photos from the set have shown Joker and Harley together in a number of scenes. Director Todd Phillips also recently shared a new photo of Phoenix as Joker (click the “next photo” button below to see him). Phoenix won an Oscar for his performance as Joker in a film that shattered expectations commercially and made more than $1 billion worldwide.
Harley Quinn’s Musical Moments Revealed
Additional set material has teased some of Gaga’s key moments in Joker 2. A video taken outside the Arkham Asylum set captures Gaga singing “That’s Entertainment,” a classic tune from the 1953 musical film The Band Wagon. Another video taken at the iconic staircase from the first Joker teases another musical number from Gaga, in which she appears to sing either “That’s Entertainment” or “Be a Clown.” The latter is from the 1948 musical film The Pirate.
Director and co-writer Todd Phillips recently revealed that Joker 2 has completed filming in a social media post that included shots of Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in full clown makeup. “That’s a wrap,” he wrote. “Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.” Principal photography on Joker 2 began back in December 2022.
Joker 2 is still more than a year away from movie screens, but fans are already debating who is the better Harley Quinn between Gaga and her predecessor, Margot Robbie. In October 2022, Robbie expressed her excitement about seeing Gaga take over the role. “It makes me so happy,” she stated. “I said from the very beginning all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed, you know, from great actor to great actor. I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
Compulsion
Deadline also reports Anna-Maria Sieklucka and Charlotte Kirk will star in Compulsion, a new project from director Neil Marshall said to be “inspired by notable erotic thrillers of the ’80s and ’90s” like “Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, and Single White Female.” The film will concern “the dynamically twisted relationship between two women, as both become embroiled in a series of horrific murders on the island of Malta.” The outlet specifies Kirk’s character, Diana, “is described as a flamboyant and ruthless thief,” while Sieklucka’s Evie is “a seemingly innocent young woman with a troubled past and a dark secret.”
Organ Trail
According to Bloody-Disgusting, the upcoming horror-western, Organ Trail, has been rated “R” for “strong violence and language references.”
Migration
Illumination has released a teaser for Migration, its new film about a family of ducks written by White Lotus creator Mike White.
