Giants OC Jason Garrett Demands Reporters To Refer To Him As ‘Coach’ After Someone Made The Terrible Mistake Of Calling Him By His First Name

New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett may now be linked with Jackson State Tigers head coach Deion Sanders, or Garrett’s latest attempt at humor may have just fallen flat.

While ending Thursday’s media availability, Garrett remarked that it was “good” to see the reporters. One individual responded that it was nice seeing Garrett in person following a season filled with Zoom videoconferences amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Yeah, we say good to see you, ‘Coach,'” Garrett answered as he walked away:

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk both noted Garrett may have simply been looking for a better response from reporters, or that he could’ve been joking as he retreated to continue his day of work.

Last month, Sanders Premately exited a media day event after somebody referred to him by his first name.

“You don’t call Nick Saban, ‘Nick.’ Don’t call me Deion,” Sanders said. “If you call Nick (Saban), Nick, you’ll get cussed out on the spot, so don’t do that to me.”

The Pro Football Hall of Famer was incorrect, as reporters across a variety of sports often refer to coaches by their names or, in some cases, their nicknames.
