The Baltimore Ravens have been relatively silent this offseason regarding NFL free agency, but apparently, they aren’t done.
On Sunday, per Ian Rapoport, the Ravens agreed to terms with former Rams, Browns, and Giants Pro Bowl wideout Odell Beckham Jr. According to Adam Schefter, the Ravens made an offer to the top free-agent receiver after the two parties met in Arizona during the NFL Owners’ Meetings.
“The Baltimore Ravens have met with Odell Beckham Jr., they’ve presented him their own offer. It certainly sounds like it’s the Jets, it’s the Ravens, maybe the Rams still would have interest but those, at this point in time, would be the obvious landing spots.”
Rapoport added that the New York Jets had planned to host Beckham for a visit later Sunday night, but the Ravens stepped up and put the money on the table.
Pelissero reported Beckham’s base salary would be just over $1.1 million, with over $13.8 million coming as a signing bonus. Then there’s an additional $3 million he could make in incentives to hit the reported $18 million mark.
The Ravens have been looking to upgrade their receiving corps, and Beckham’s addition could improve the team’s leverage in a stalemate with star quarterback Lamar Jackson. In March, Baltimore used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which allows him to negotiate with other teams.
Jackson has since said that he has requested a trade, while the Ravens have indicated they want to keep him in Baltimore.
Beckham, 30, had been pursuing a $20 million annual contract in his comeback from injury after tearing his left ACL during Los Angeles’ Super Bowl LVI win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Feb. 13, 2022. Beckham sat out the 2022 season as a result. Among the teams reportedly interested were the New York Jets.
His signing comes after quarterback Lamar Jackson announced he had requested a trade away from the Ravens earlier this month.
“As of March 2nd, I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl,” 26-year-old Jackson wrote in a post on social media.
On March 7, Baltimore applied the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson after failing to come to terms on a long-term contract over the last two years.
The tag means that Jackson is free to negotiate with other franchises, but should he sign an offer sheet with another team, the Ravens will have five days to either match the deal or receive two first-round picks in return. The non-exclusive tag comes with a salary cap cost of $32.4 million for the 2023 season.
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said on March 7 that he hopes the two sides can agree to a long-term deal.
“We will continue to negotiate in good faith with Lamar, and we are hopeful that we can strike a long-term deal that is fair to both Lamar and the Ravens,” DeCosta said in a statement. “Our ultimate goal is to build a championship team with Lamar Jackson leading the way for many years to come.”
