Elsea Ballerini made her Saturday Night Live musical guest debut with what appeared to be a slight dig at ex Morgan Evans.
Ballerini, who performed the track, “Blindsided” from her new breakup album, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, noticeably added some extra lyrics to the end of the song to seemingly take aim at Evans amid their ongoing divorce drama.
Following the final chorus, Ballerini looked straight into the camera, and sang, “Now you’re singing out loud on the radio/You couldn’t say it to my face/You would’ve searched the whole world over/Yeah, sure. Ok.”
She also performed her hit ballad, “Penthouse,” off the same album.
“Now you’re singin’ it loud on the radio like you’re the only heart that breaks/ You would’ve searched the whole world over? Yeah, sure, OK,” she sings.
Later in the show, Ballerini returned for a stunning performance of “Penthouse.” This time around, she wore a beautiful silky white gown and delivered the slow ballad in front of a large white piano.
“We played the part five nights, but we were never there on the weekends, baby,” she belted out.
Saturday’s SNL episode was hosted by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who also made his debut on the iconic NBC sketch comedy show.
Ballerini, who announced her divorce from Evans in August 2022, addressed her marriage’s dissolution on her recent six-song EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which was released on Valentine’s Day. The project’s handful of songs are littered with details of the couple’s crumbling marriage and the emotional wreckage left in its wake. The EP was accompanied by a 20-minute short film.
Rolling Up the Welcome Mat also follows Ballerini’s 2022 album, Subject to Change, which reflects on her personal growth over the past few years.
Fans also celebrated the new lyrics on social media following her performance, hyping up the “Miss Me More” singer.

In the months following their divorce, Evans released “Over For You” which seemingly addressed the couple’s relationship. In an Instagram post, he said that writing the song “helped me process a lot of what I was going through.”
Earlier this year, Evans told American Songwriter that “Over For You” came from the “pretty dark time” that followed his divorce. Then on Feb. 28, he released a five-part docuseries about the song.
Ballerini also explored her divorce from the Australian singer in a project of her own, releasing her six-song EP on Valentine’s Day, which was accompanied by a 20 minute-long film.
A few days later, Ballerini appeared on the Feb. 22 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and discussed her marriage and divorce with host Alex Cooper.
Evans released a statement Feb. 21 on social media in response to the interview, writing in part on Instagram, “It’s really sad for me to see this person, who I spent so much of my life with, and loved with all my heart, saying things that aren’t reality and that leave out what really happened. She knows I’m not the type of guy to speak on those things publicly.”
Ballerini and Evan’s relationship
Ballerini and Evans started dating in March 2016 and were engaged on Christmas day of that year. The couple was married almost a year later in December 2017.
However, just under five years later, Ballerini announced that the couple would be divorcing. The ‘Half of My Hometown’ singer addressed the split with an Instagram story.
“Friends, I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold. This is now public record so I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce,” she wrote.
“This deeply difficult decision is the result of a journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end. It’s hard to find the words here…but I feel extremely grateful for the years of marriage to Morgan and hopeful for the next seasons,” Ballerini continued.
Evans also added his own statement, writing: “I am very sad to confirm that after almost five years of marriage, Kelsea and I are parting ways. I wish it were otherwise but sadly it is not.”
