Keanu Reeves lovingly wanted all of the “John Wick: Chapter 4” stuntmen to remember just how many times they died during the making of the blockbuster action movie. A new report from The New York Times about the making of the sequel’s unforgettable action scenes includes a detail about Reeves gifting the film’s stunt crew with t-shirts that had the number of deaths each stunt person faced in the movie. For some of the stunt crew, that number was above 20.
Why so many death scenes per one stunt person? It’s because “John Wick: Chapter 4” re-used stunt workers in multiple scenes. For the instant classic staircase fight, in which Reeves’ John Wick fights bad guys as he races up the 222 steps leading to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica (only to be pushed back down to the bottom and have to do it all over again), the production used 35 stunt workers, many of whom had repeated deaths in the scene.
In case you’re not caught up on Keanu Reeves lore, the man is stellar at answering vague questions. When Stephen Colbert half-jokingly asked him what happens after we die, the actor said, “I know that the ones who love us will miss us.” I know! So sweet!
Another time, Reeves told Drew Barrymore that though he is “not a fighter,” he would fight for one thing: “If you don’t fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?”
In 2011, Reeves and Grant published a picture book together called “Ode to Happiness,” a guide to help readers embrace a more optimistic outlook on life. Grant painted the illustrations while Reeves provided the text.
“The book was made as a surprise, by me, for Keanu, as a private gift,” Grant revealed to British Vogue.
She continued, “All our friends sitting in the room got the giggles when I gave it to him — they said, ‘Please publish it!’ So that’s how we got into publishing.”
In the midst of their relationship, Keanu said on the Drew Barrymore Show that though he is “not a fighter,” he would fight for one thing: “If you don’t fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?”
Though the two are in a long-term relationship, they aren’t in a hurry to get married. “they are in no rush to make it to the altar.” The source told the gossip website, “They have both been in a lot of serious relationships before, so they are content just being with each other, but nothing is ever off the table.”
In the Vogue interview, she easily dodged the question of marriage, saying that she would discuss it ” “Over a glass of wine. I would love to tell you. Love at every level is deeply important to my identity. How’s that for dodging the question? I do not believe that isolation is the way. There is a period of isolation that I do as a painter, but I deeply value the experience of being in relationships.”
On March 29, 2023, Reeves offered a rare insight into his relationship with Grant. When asked when his last moment of bliss was by People, he answered, “A couple of days ago with my honey. We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.”
