Jefferson City School Board and City Council Election Results are in!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

JEFFERSON CITY — In Cole County, the final data of 15% voter turnover surpassed the 10% the County Clerk county was anticipating. The two big races to watch in Jefferson City were the School Board and City Council.

For the Jefferson City School Board, Erika Leonard and Anne Bloemke-Warren beat out Marc Ellinger and Adam Gresham for the two open board positions.

Before the results were in, Leonard said if elected, one of the first things she’s looking to tackle as a school board member is digging into the district budget and how tax dollars are spread across all 18 schools in the district.

Bloemke-Warren will join Leonard on the School Board, but with a goal of making sure teachers feel supported from both the board and community.

She said the campaign was long and tedious, but is happy it’s over and is ready to jump right in.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead in Jeff City. I’ve lived here for 20 years and I’ve watched as things happen around me and I’m really excited to be a part of the process,” Bloemke-Warren said.

The Jefferson City council election contained two big races at Ward One and Ward Three.

The Second, Fourth, and Fifth Ward seats were sought after and won respectively by Incumbents Mike Lester, Ron Fitzwater, and Jon Hensley, each running unopposed.

Ward Three Incumbent Erin Wiseman held onto her position, beating out former council member Bob Scrivner by gaining 55% of votes.

For a seat on Ward One, Jack Deeken beat out Jacob Robinett with 53% of votes.

As a first-time member of City Council, Deeken said he needs to learn the ropes, but is ready to get started.

“Just figuring out how everything works and most importantly try and find the budget. We need to start fixing out roads, that’s what I promised the people that if they elected me. That’s the first thing we’ll try and prioritize is our broken down roads and bridges,” Deeken said.

Deeken added that when it come to the town of Jefferson City, it’s not broken, it just needs new direction and that’s what he plans to do.
