Red Dead Redemption and zombie add-on Undead Nightmare are coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17, Rockstar has announced.
Rockstar’s 2010 Western adventure, which only launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is being ported to PS4 and Switch by UK developer Double Eleven Studios, with PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility supported.
The port is not a remaster or a remake but a “conversion”, according to Rockstar, and includes newly supported languages such as Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish. It costs $49.99 on the Nintendo Switch eShop and PlayStation Store, with physical versions arriving October 13.
The game launches for the two systems on August 17th, more than a decade after it first showed its hide on the PS3 and Xbox 360. (That version is already compatible with newer Xbox consoles.) It was followed by a gigantic sequel in 2018. The releases will also include the noncanonical Undead Nightmare single-player campaign that pitted John Marston against hordes of zombies.
Red Dead Redemption will cost $49.99 in the Nintendo eShop and the PlayStation Store, while physical releases are expected on October 13th. The game will support several new languages: simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish.
Based on what’s been shown so far, this new version of Red Dead Redemption is not really a remaster. It’s more of a slightly enhanced port that brings the open world western to some modern platforms. But what may make some fans really scratch their heads is how this new version of Red Dead Redemption is skipping completely over major platforms and is going to retail for a whopping $49.99 despite the game being over a decade old and not bringing any notable new content to the table.
Fans may also be confused about Rockstar’s release plans for Red Dead Redemption. August 17 is the day that PS4 and Switch gamers can pick up Red Dead Redemption digitally, with a physical release to follow on October 13. There will be no native PS5 release of the game, though it will still be playable on Sony’s latest console thanks to its backward compatibility with the PS4’s library. There will also be no Xbox version of the game, though the original Xbox 360 version is at least playable on modern Xbox consoles. Most disappointing of all, Red Dead Redemption is still not coming to PC with this rerelease. Fans have been asking for a PC version of the game for years, but it seems that they will have to keep waiting on that front.
Fairly early on in the game, players will be asked by Pearson to go out hunting with Charles to provide much-needed food for the camp. During The Aftermath of Genesis mission, players will be given a simple hunting bow and Regular Arrows.
For hunting purposes, these Regular Arrows will serve players great, especially on normal-sized games that are less likely to be damaged. These arrows can sometimes be retrieved and players can buy a bunch of 5 Regular Arrows for just $0.50 from General Stores and Gunsmiths. Regular Arrows are also needed to craft the best arrows in RDR2.
