Clorox recalls 37 million Pine-Sol cleaning products that may contain bacteria!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

California-based Clorox said Tuesday it has recalled some of its Pine-Sol scented multi-surface cleaners and all-purpose cleaners because they may contain bacteria that could cause serious illness in people with compromised immune systems.

The recall doesn’t include its iconic original pine-scented Pine-Sol, which is its only product registered as a disinfectant.

The company confirmed in an email to CBC News Tuesday evening that the recall applies to Canada, too, and includes Pine-Sol Scented Multi-surface Cleaner in Lavender Clean, Lemon Fresh, Sparkling Wave, Orange Energy and Mandarin Sunrise scents.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) released a notice of the recall Tuesday. Testing has found the bacteria — Pseudomonas aeruginosa, “an environmental organism found widely in soil and water” — in some of the recalled products, including those produced between January 2021 and September 2022, USCPSC said.

The recall says you should stop using the affected Pine-Sol products immediately. Then, take a picture of the 12-digit UPC code and date code before throwing the product away.

After that, contact Pine-Sol for a full refund of the purchase price or the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (this all depends on if you still have the receipt or not).

All of the affected products have a date code that starts with “A4,” followed by a five digit number less than 22249. This means they were made before September 2022.

The germ can cause blood and lung infections, particularly after surgery, when it can spread from surfaces and hands to medical equipment, according to a white paper by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In all, Clorox produced about 37 million recalled Pine-Sol products during that time.

Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners is also included in the recall. The original Pine-Sol (Pine Scent) is not included in the recall.

Consumers can find a full list of affected products and date codes on the company’s website, and a hotline (1-855-378-4982) will be available as of Wednesday for Canadian consumers who purchased the recalled products to submit a request for reimbursement.

Affected customers can get more information by calling Pine-Sol toll-free at (855) 378-4982, by email at PineSolRecalls@inmar.com, or online at pinesolrecall.com and Pinesol.com by clicking on “Recall Information.”
