Golden Globes 2023: Quinta Brunson Wins For ‘Abbott Elementary

The Golden Globe Awards returned to airways for the first time since 2021 on Tuesday, and nominated programs included TV shows like The White Lotus and Abbott Elementary, and movies like The Banshees Of Inisherin and Avatar: The Way Of Water, offering a possible barometer for the upcoming Academy Awards.

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted and opened the show by acknowledging the controversy surrounding it, joking he was chosen to host because he’s Black, and saying the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the ceremony, didn’t have any Black members “until George Floyd” died.

Angela Bassett (winner, Best Actress In A Supporting Role In Any Motion Picture) became the first actor to win an individual Globe award for a movie based on a Marvel comic, for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
