In support of South Korea’s quest for the World Expo 2030: BTS hold free concert in Busan!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

The K-pop mega-band BTS will reunite on Saturday to perform a free concert in Busan in support of South Korea’s bid to host the World Expo 2030.

The septet, which wrapped up the first chapter of its nine-year career with the anthology album “Proof” in June, will share traces of its journey with its fans during the concert at Busan Asiad Main Stadium.

Titled BTS “Yet To Come” in BUSAN is a free concert set to take place at 6 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) and is expected draw about 100,000 fans (from all over the world to Busan, according to the local government) to the stadium and designated areas in Busan, over 300 kms (190 miles) southeast of capital Seoul, according to the Busan Metropolitan City.

Big Hit Music, the event’s organiser, predicted that 100,000 people would attend the live performance. At the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal Outdoor Parking Lot, people will attend a live broadcast called LIVE PLAY. There will be live streaming of the show on Weverse, Zepeto, and Naver Now as well.

The concert comes after the seven-member band announced a break in June from group musical activities to pursue solo projects, raising questions about the band’s future.

Under a 2019 revision of the law, globally recognised K-pop stars were allowed to put off their service until 30. Military service is hugely controversial in South Korea where all able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28 must fulfil their duties as part of efforts to defend against nuclear-armed North Korea.

With BTS’ oldest member, Jin, who is turning 30 next year, facing South Korea’s mandatory military service, the country’s defense minister said in August that BTS might still be able to perform overseas while serving in the military.

Expo 2030 will take place from October 1, 2030, to April 1, 2031. The theme proposed by Saudi Arabia is “The era of change: leading the planet to a foresighted tomorrow”.

Dubai hosted Expo 2020 from October 2021 to March 2022, delayed by a year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In July, BTS were named as the official ambassadors for the World Expo 2030 in Busan.

BTS made their debut in June 2013 and became a worldwide sensation with their upbeat hits and social campaigns aimed at empowering young people.

Last year, BTS became the first Asian band to win artist of the year at the American Music Awards.

The group met US President Joe Biden at the White House in May to discuss hate crimes targeting Asians.
