The Greatest Blackhawk Ever: Farewell Patrick Kane!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

Patrick Kane is finally a New York Ranger. It took the Rangers some time to accrue the salary cap space to acquire Kane, but they were able to pull it off on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rangers sent a conditional 2023 second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Kane. If the Rangers win two playoff rounds this year, the conditional second-round pick becomes a first-round pick in 2024 or 2025.

The Arizona Coyotes got involved as a third-party to retain some of Kane’s salary and make it possible for the Rangers to fit him in under the cap. In exchange for retaining 25% of Kane’s cap hit, the Coyotes got a 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers.

The Blackhawks get back a 2023 conditional second-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick and minor league defenseman Andy Welinski for the pending unrestricted free agent, who waived his no-movement clause. The second-round pick can become a first (in either 2024 or 2025) if the Rangers reach the conference final, reports say. Minor league defenseman Cooper Zech also heads to the Rangers organization.

Chicago will retain 50% of Kane’s $10.5 million contract, and the Arizona Coyotes will take on 50% of the remaining portion, making it a palatable $2.625 million for New York’s cap situation. The Coyotes receive a conditional 2025 third-round pick from the Rangers and are sending prospect Vili Saarijarvi to the Blackhawks.

Kane was drafted No. 1 overall by the Blackhawks in 2007 and won Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Captain Jonathan Toews is the lone remaining Chicago player from that run, though he’s out long-term with an illness.

Kane has averaged 1.06 points per game during his career, won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2013 and won the league scoring title and Hart Trophy in 2015-16. He has been named to the All-Star Game nine times.

Chicago Hockey’s Savior
Twenty years ago, ESPN ranked the Chicago Blackhawks as the worst organization in sports. Four years later, the team drafted Patrick Kane and the rest was history. Now, you would be hard-pressed to walk anywhere in the city for five minutes and not see a red sweater with ’88’ on the back. That was the impact of Patrick Kane.

The electrifying winger will forever be a legend in this city. His numbers are remarkable. Had he finished his career in Chicago, he would have likely finished first in nearly every significant category of the Blackhawks’ record book.
