Field Hockey Travels to UC Davis, Stanford for First Road Tests of the Season!– OnMyWay Mobile App User

EAST LANSING, Mich.  Michigan State field hockey is set for its first road tests of the season, taking on UC Davis on Friday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT, and Stanford on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. ET/ 1 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans are off to a 2-0 start after knocking off No. 21 American, 3-1, and Saint Louis, 6-1, last weekend. Michigan State is led in scoring by junior Emma O’Neill (3 goals) and sophomore Ellie Rutherford (2 goals), while graduate

defender Georgia Davies posts a team-high four assists. Kim Smit, Jillian Bonczewski, Gracie Burns, and Lulu Fulton have each recorded a goal for the Spartans. Graduate goalkeeper Monique Jardell has played every minute in goal so far, logging seven saves.

SPARTANS IN THE NCAA TOP 10
After a weekend of strong offensive performances, Michigan State finds itself in a four-way tie for third in scoring average (4.50) and six-way tie for third in scoring margin (3.50) in the NCAA. Davies is tied for third in assists per game, currently posting an average of 2.00.

SCOUTING UC DAVIS
The Aggies fell to Holy Cross last Saturday, 2-3, for a 0-1 start to the season. Grace Austin (3 points, 1 goal/1 assist) leads UC Davis in scoring, while Skylar Richards adds a goal. Kalli Davis has made three saves in goal. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 2-1. Michigan State and UC Davis last met on Sept. 6,

2019, with the Spartans securing a 2-1 overtime victory. Austin Pile is in his first season as the head coach of the Aggies after serving as an assistant at Cal for eight seasons.

SCOUTING STANFORD
The Cardinal post a 1-1 record following an overtime 2-1 win over Holy Cross and 0-1 loss to No. 4 Maryland last weekend. Rose Winter (3 points/1 goal, 1 assist) and Lynn Vanderstichele (2 points/1 goal) lead Stanford in scoring, while goalkeeper Daisy Ford posts a .857 save percentage and 1.42 goals against

average. Stanford and Michigan State last played on Oct. 30, 2016, with Stanford securing a 3-2 victory. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 8-5. Cardinal head coach Roz Ellis enters her second season at the helm in 2022.

UP NEXT
The Spartans return home to open up Big Ten play against Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. and take on Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. Both games will take place at Ralph Young Field.
